Integrating Technology - Moodle for Teachers is a self-funded project that Dr. Nellie Deutsch (see Linkedin) founded in 2009 in order to bring free e-learning to educators in developing and developed countries for blended and fully online programs worldwide. Check her Youtube channel for more. The programs include two 3-day online conferences called CO09-24 in February and MMVC11-24 in August, workshops, 6 online courses, and two month long MOOCs, Moodle MOOC in May and Virtual Worlds MOOC in September. This is an open forum for teachers of ELT who use or wish to use Moodle learning management system. Participants of the forum will be able to ask about activities and resources available in Moodle, get advice on anything related to ELT and Moodle, and share what worked and what didn't.
The first Moodle MOOC started in 2013. Moodle MOOCs take place once a year in May. The goal of Moodle MOOCs is to introduce the participants to a learning management system called Moodle so they can use it to teach in face-to-face, blended, and in fully online programs. Moodle MOOCs take place on the latest stable Moodle version. Participants will learn about and practice using the activities, resources, and blocks available in their very own Moodle course.
Develop a Moodle Course (DaMC) is a 4-week online course. The content of DaMC focuses on tips and tricks for Moodle teachers. The course is for participants, who have taught at least one Moodle course and know how to add activities, resources, and blocks. They will learn how to edit the course, add enrollment methods, enroll students, learn about course completion and competencies, how to create certificates and tips and tricks on how to engage learners in collaborative peer-based learning activities.
Manager of a Moodle Site (MOMS) course is a free 4-week training course for advanced Moodlers. The course includes user, course, and other manager activities. Advanced learners, who receive a certificate of completion from previous Moodle for Teachers courses on how to teach with Moodle can go on to learn how to manage a Moodle site. The course takes place in May of each year.
Connecting Online (CO) is a free 3-day online conference that has been taking place in the month of February since 2009. CO24 is the 15th annual CO event. This year, the event will take place from February 23 - 25, 2024.
TESOL Online 5-week free online course starts on August 1 and ends on August 31 of each year. Download syllabus! The course is completely free (including the certificate), but requires your active engagement with the content and your peers. In order to qualify, please fill in this form and record and upload a 2-5 minute video introducing yourself and explaining your interest in taking TESOL Online. You can do the video live on Youtube, on your phone, on ZOOM or ZOOM alternatives, Vimeo, or any other screen recorders. Make sure the video is public and viewable.
MMVC24 13th anniversary August 2-4, 2024. Free badges and certificates will be available to presenters and attendees.
The annual Second Life MOOC (renamed the Virtual World MOOC in 2018) started in 2014. The 10th VWMOOC24 will take place from September 1-30, 2024.
This is a hands-on course. Teachers will be given their own Moodle H5P sandbox course upon successfully completing the tasks in Week 1. Teachers will learn how to create interactive content using H5P tools that engage and align with their teaching goals. They will learn how to credit their H5Ps with Creative Commons licenses.
Participants will gain hands-on experience creating AI-generated activities for ELT. They will utilize AI-generated language apps to develop text-to-image, video-based, vocabulary, grammar, listening, writing, and speaking tasks. Participants will learn how to teach online using the activities, resources, and blocks available as they develop their very own Moodle course.
